Bridges
Gap Mountain serves as the Civil/Structural Engineer of Record for highway, municipal, and private bridge projects. We manage planning, permitting, design, and construction—including in FEMA flood zones and coastal areas. Our team self-performs geotechnical work where qualified and specializes in major maintenance and structural repairs across steel, concrete, and timber bridges. We’re also experienced in public-private partnerships, finance modeling, and AASHTO inspections.
Bulk Plants
We engineer bulk fuel oil distribution plants with a focus on structural and containment systems. Projects include concrete and steel slabs, dykes, foundations, and pipe bridges. Our geotechnical expertise and coastal construction experience span multiple states including MA, NH, CT, RI, and TX. Many of these facilities are USCG-regulated and located in FEMA flood zones.
Commercial
Gap Mountain is the Engineer of Record for the Gables, a major mixed-use, transit-oriented development in Westport, CT. We lead civil, structural, MEP, and fire protection engineering and act as the developer’s project manager. The site features complex retaining wall systems built into granite slopes and includes four buildings across timber, composite, steel, and concrete structures. Completion is expected in 2026.
Residential
We provide engineering for complex residential developments like Heights Crossing in Darien, CT, covering structural, electrical, and civil systems. Our work includes off-site traffic signal improvements and large-scale retaining walls built into steep terrain. As project managers, we oversaw design/build execution, including cost-saving modifications like the removal of cathodic protection.
Dams
Our team engineers major and minor dam restorations throughout Connecticut, classified from low to high hazard by CT-DEEP. We handle full-scope rehabilitation and design of control systems such as sluice gates and drains. Using LiDAR, bathymetry, and modeling tools like HEC-RAS and HydroCAD, we deliver precise inundation and hydraulic analysis for resilient dam infrastructure.
Marine & Coastal
We design and engineer bulkheads, docks, piers, travel lifts, and related infrastructure for commercial and residential marinas in Fairfield County, CT. Our coastal projects include both traditional and proprietary systems to enhance safety and performance. Structural elements range from steel and concrete to marine-grade timber, with travel lift capacities from 30 to 150 tons.
